Original description of event: "Don’t despair, you trendsetters out there. If you missed the Chicago premiere of New York vogue master David Ian at a recent Children’s Memorial Hospital Benefit, you get a second chance. Ian will be back in town at Medusas, 3257 N. Sheffield Ave., to host the Chicago Voguers' Ball on Sept. 7 For the uninitiated, vogueing is the nightclub phenomenon that has eclipsed breakdancing as the hot underground dance trend. Vogueing features model/dancers who freeze fashion poses in a type of dance performance. Voguers organize themselves into teams known as "houses" that compete against one another at balls. The Chicago Voguers' Ball will feature houses from a variety of area boutiques and nightclubs. Judges include a panel of local media types, including this reporter, so it seemed in order to get some pointers from Ian, 22, who heads up the Manhattan House of Extravaganza. He was full of judging tips, one of which was not to worry about categories such as "realness". "That’s just a category for transvestites," he said. "Realness is the one who looks the most real. What you should be looking for is style, grace, precision, the ability to hold a pose and attitude. Attitude is very important."
