A EXTREMELY RARE/HISTORIC PIECE of DALI EPHEMERA.
This exhibition catalogue was produced in a limited edition on the occasion of the 1936 exhibition Dalí at the Julien Levy Gallery in New York. Each of the wallets on the front of the catalogue is in the form of a woman's breast and contains two fold-out pages with twelve reproductions of Dalí's work.

This is an iconic, and wonderful oversized Pop interpretation of an entry ticket celebrating the fifth New York Film Festival at Lincoln Center, NYC, held from September 20– 30, 1967. The edition of this poster was limited to 200 impressions, which were signed and numbered by the artist using an engraving tool on the verso of each print. A very unique use of handwork
appears in this special edition run- a perforated line runs across the surface of the print, at its triangular cut out sides, mimicking the tear line present in real commercial admissions tickets.
The paper editions do not have this perforations only in print, also the die cuts are printed.
Chiron Press devised a special process to imprint the edition with this perforation using a die cut stamp.

John Sex (John McLaughlin), and Keith Haring became Best Buddies while attending the School of Visual Arts NYC (SVA) in the late 70’s. John often used the SVA print studio to create punk-style posters for downtown bands, and later for himself. He exhibited some of his word-based art at the "Beyond Words" show at the Mudd Club – alongside artists such as Haring, Kenny Scharf, and Futura 2000 and performers Iggy Pop, Fab Five Freddy and Alan Vega – and at the "New York / New Wave" exhibition at P.S. 1, both in 1981.

The bottom portion of the poster lists the participating artists including Basquiat, Daze, Keith Haring, Carolee Schneeman, Kiki Smith, David Wojnarowicz, and Taylor Mead, and also prints the schedule for various exhibitions and performances at the two venues.

It is said Andy Warhol himself stapled and prepared a very limited number of these.
He handed them out to people as they headed into the Gallery to see his famous Thirteen Most Wanted Men exhibition in 1967.
These rare prints are authenticated by "two small pin holes at the top left of the print which were originally left there by a staple where it had been attached to other relevant material that made up the catalogue (or dossier)"
Excellent- folder shows slight ambering due to age (over 50 years) which is normal.
No rips or tears. Inside content (sheets of paper and print) in great condition. Original staple has left a slight mark (see photo) but is considered good as proof of authenticity. Slight crease across middle as folder/catalogue/dossier was folded and kept in an old art book over time.

Guggenheim, who would establish the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation. Peggy Guggenheim created a noted art collection in Europe and America primarily between 1938 and 1946. She exhibited this collection as she built it and in 1949, settled in Venice, where she lived and exhibited her collection for the rest of her life.

"Pork" opened at LaMama Theatre in New York City on May 5, 1971 and ran for two weeks before transferring to the Roundhouse Theatre. Produced by Ira Gale and directed by Anthony Ingrassia, the cast included Jayne County as Vulva, Tony Zanetta as B. Marlowe and Cherry Vanilla as Amanda Pork. "Pork" was based on tape-recorded telephone conversations between Andy Warhol and Brigid Berlin about her family's private life, and proved to be a defining counter-cultural event, which would have a significant influence on the evolution of the glam, glitter and punk movements. The London production in particular was instrumental in the transformation of David Bowie's visual style and stage presentation.
"Pork" assistant director Lee Black Childers explained, grew out of "boxes and boxes and hours and hours of cassette tapes," comprising every single telephone conversation that Warhol and Brigid Berlin had in the previous three years, and painstakingly transcribed by Warhol's long-suffering assistant Pat Hackett. "Basically, it was nothing more than a lot of pointless conversation. It was a comment on a society where nobody listens to anybody else. None of the conversations were linked, everybody just talked." Anthony Ingrassia, the show's four-hundred-pound director, painted an even more disorganized impression. Warhol's initial vision for "Pork" comprised no fewer than twenty-nine separate acts that would have lasted around two hundred hours. Ingrassia edited this down into a fast-paced two-act play that shifted its attention from a barely disguised Factory to a fairly recognizable Max's Kansas City and on to Berlin's hotel room. The lead character, Amanda Pork, was Berlin herself in all but name. Other prominent characters included Billy Noname, a businesslike gentleman named Pall, a vicious blonde superstar called Vulva, two nude men with pastel-covered genitals named the Pepsodent Twins, and, practically immobile at the heart of the action, a pale, deadpan, laconic slice of living ennui named B. Marlowe.

The place to be if you lived downtown in the late 70's, early 80's. I was a semi-regular there and how I came by these tickets is still unclear to me. They had a strict door policy and I knew plenty of the right people, which guaranteed I'd get in, so why these were even necessary, I don't know. In order to secure the space for the Mudd Club Steve Mass described it as a cabaret. Mass claimed to have started the nightclub on a budget of only $15,000. Sexy, edgy, queer and everything else. Keith Haring curated a rotating gallery on the fourth floor. Lots of great music and an awesome dj Anita Sarko. As it became more well known and part of the regular routine of night clubs, a door policy was established and it acquired an elitist reputation. This is probably when they started issuing these tickets. A piece of New York City history. Signed exhibition catalogue depicting the pioneering effort to draw together related currents in various arts of the 1950's and early '60s. It belonged to my mother who was herself an artist and attended the exhibit and had the first page of the inside front cover signed by 4 artists including Robert (Bob) Rauschenberg, John Cage (composer), Merce Cunningham (dancer) and one unknown artist signature. Also signed by Neil A. Chassman, the Chairman of the Department of Art History at Southern Methodist University. The catalogue is in beautiful condition and only has mild scuffing on the spine and covers. It contains 175 pages. Also included are 3 Dallas Morning News articles regarding the 1974 exhibit and the program for the John Cage and Merce Cunningham dances and reading.

Released on Verve Records V-5008 in 1967. The banana has been peeled off the front cover. The back cover has the Torso but the Torso has been obscured by the black VU sticker pasted over it because of a lawsuit by Mr. Emerson about the use of his photo. The stickered copies are particularly rare. Please see the details below about the cover, vinyl, labels and everything else you might want to know.
Condition (cover): MUSEUM QUALITY
STRONG Excellent (EX) better gatefold cover. TOP Keeper copy would be impossible to upgrade. The banana has been peeled, but the front cover is otherwise bright white; I've never seen another so clean. The back cover has some minor age spotting, and there is a promo or deletion drill hole in the front left lower cover. The spine and seams are tight and show no wear. The gatefold cover creaks if you try and open it too far (see pics).
STRONG VG. Plays VG+ or better, with many EX moments,
small scuffs and paper marks, but nice enough MONO copy. LP cleaned on KL Audio Ultrasonic Record Cleaning Machine with a new rice paper sleeve equivalent.
